Hit my head really hard.concussion?!?

today.i hit my head so hard that i saw a bug white flash for like...1 second, and i have a big bump on my forehead.and my head (inside) hurts and the bump itself hurt a little teeny bit... could i have a little concussion? and if i did...is that bad? what do i do? what will happen if i don't get it looked at?
Answer:
if you feel dizzy, sick, or your vision is blurry it might be concussion. It would be a good idea to get checked out by a doctor
this would be a concussion. treat your pain with advil or tylenol, rest, and see a doctor if your symptoms become more severe.
If its bothering you you should really go see your doc,its always good to check it out expecually if your head, lots of things can happen so go get it checked out.
Concussions are caused by trauma to the brain. This happens when the brain collides with the skull. "Wierd" symptoms can occur and "concussions can worsen over time. For instance, a person may seem fine right after the injury. But strange symptoms develop hours or days later. In severe cases, worsening symptoms can be a sign that a blood clot is pushing the brain against the skull." Rest is prescribed and a person may need to be monitored at a hospital for a little while.
anytime you have a head injury-you should be evaluated within 24 hours (immediately if you passed out). being that you saw a "white flash" i would say that you passed out briefly and you really should have someone take you to the er or nearest urgent care.this could be a mild concussion and will hurt for a while.if you have it evaluated at an emergency room, they might take some head xrays to make sure you didnt fracture your skull and they might also do a head ct scan (a 3-d image of the brain taken w/ a special machine-does not hurt) to make sure you didnt seriously injure your brain (bruised it or have a small bleed somewhere). if you have a concussion-they'll send you home with some pain medication and tell you to rest as much as possible (and to have someone their to watch over you).do not take anything (tylenol, motrin, etc) until seen by a dr. these medications thin the blood and in the rare event that you have a brain bleed-they could make it worse if you take them. and do NOT drive yourself. if there is nobody there to take you-call 911 and have an ambulance drive you.head injuries can start out simple but can turn into a serious condition in an instant. i work in trauma icu and i've had several patients who have fallen days before coming to the hospital only to find out they had injured their brain and are now in my icu b/c they waited to long to have it looked out. it's better to be safe than sorry-especially with head injuries.
Because the brain is the controlling organ for the body, injuries to the head are potentailly dangerous and always require medical attention.
Concussion is an altered state of consciousness caused by a blow to the head or neck.. There is always possibility of serious brain injury.
Look out for temporary loss of consciousness, headache, amnesia, altered response to commands and touch, blood or clear fluid from nose or ears, pupils that become unequal in size and blurred vision. You need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible.
Ok doing Martial Arts I have had my share of concussions. it is true that you do see stars. Man it is not fun. They don't really do anything for you at the hospital unless you are completely knocked out for a period of time. Make sure the bump isn't indented. If it is swollen and out then you are fine. Just take it easy. Put some ice on it to get the swelling to go down. If things get too awfully bad call 911. I am sure you will be fine. You will have a nice bump and a headache for awhile. My last bump didn't go away for over a month and the headache lasted for days. I wish you the best. Hang in there.
You should really get it looked at, you could have hurt yourself more than you know. I know with a concussion you鈥檙e supposed to stay up for like 24 hours cause there is a chance if you fall asleep you could slip into a coma. Go to the doctor.

Hit forehead...should I see a doctor?

I hit my forehead really hard on the corner of an open car door. Within seconds, I developed a HUGE egg shaped bump but no dizziness or vomiting. It has been 5 days now and the swelling has gone down tremendously. There is slight bruising which leads me to believe it is healing. I have experienced headaches since the injury and occassionaly feel tired and nausias. Should I be concerned? I was told to see a neurologist to make sure everything is OK but I do not have health insurance and the visit would probably cost a fortune once x-rays are taken. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
5 days out %26 you are doing better probably indicates no serious damage (which would be bleeding within the brain); but if things change you need to go to an ER. A mild concussion (which is just a sorta brain bruise) will heal on its own without anything to do for it--just observation for the first 48 hours. Signs that things are worse include: visual changes, gait problems, projectile vomiting, stupor to unconsciousness, personality changes, worst headache of life, stiffening neck etc. IN that case don't even think about health insurance but go to ER. Xrays of head injuries are no longer taken--you would get a CT or an MRI.
Yes, see a Physician for a diagnosis.
I'd go see a doc. It's not like it was your foot or something. It's your head! Lot's of important stuff in there.
As long as the symptoms are diminishing I would not go to the doctor. The Doctor would order at least a CT and possibly a MRI. Without insurance you are looking at about $2000 there alone. As long as the swelling is going down AND the color of the bruising is starting to fade then do not worry. If your vision becomes blurred or if you start noticing mood changes then you will need to go.
No, if you don't have the luxury of health insurance I would strongly recommend not going to a doctor. They're just going to charge you too much money to tell you you're just fine and that you got a mild concusion. You'll be fine, you we're probably feeling bad because the swelling creating increased pressure on your temporal lobe giving you headaches and nausia. If it continues to bother you in a week, then i would suggest seeing someone, or researching on the internet 'prolongued concusions' or something along the lines of that.

Hit 40 and have nothing but aches and pains?

try to keep fit have joined a gym and try to exercise 4 to 5 times a week
back, shoulder, ankle all ache all the time
any ideas
Answer:
Try taking Emergen-C with MSM on a regular basis. It's a powder you mix with water and is VERY effective for those aches we get as we age. I have a physician friend who works in the preventive medicine field and he recommends it to his older patients all the time. You could also take glucosamine chondroitin as a supplement. It helps with any degeneration of the pads between the joints. Those two products can be extremely helpful.
Warm up and down properly. If that doesn't do it see a physio or look into massage/ reflexology etc...very relaxing too.Does the gym not offer advice??
At 40 this happens...but yoga can significantly reduce the pain and aches. Yoga stretches muscles and gets fluids circulating within muscles and seems to make a big difference.
Take some ibuprofen. That will help with the pain. Then work out easier until you build up your muscles.
See your doctor, check your matress, and if you are just re- starting your exercise routine, see a trainer and don't exercise too long or too much: gradually build up.
There could be an underlying cause to your continuous aches and pains. Talk to your doc about it. As another answerer mentioned, yoga is good for you. The more flexible you are the less prone you are to injury.
Hope you sort out your aches soon!
the low dose aspirin is good, plus you have the added benefit of heartache protection. but you should also take some kind high dose calcium because after 30-35, you lose bone density.
Welcome to the club!
well my nan takes some naterel compounds against cartaleg damage and i believe it could help ...i feel you probably whent in to fast ...arobics can be fun with or without waights ...swimming never causes straina real massage with oils can and does help
Why not try a different type of exercise? Basic yoga or flexibility training is less demanding on the body, but very effective. You sound as if you are over doing it. Take it easy and give your body a chance to recover. Even just going for a 30 minute walk a few times a week can be of great benefit. Stretching exercises and deep breathing are the best for aches and pains. Good luck!

Hip/Leg Pains at 21?

I have been getting moderate to severe pains in my hips and down my legs for a while now, it comes and goes and is worse at times than others, but it worries me as it sometimes causes a limp its so bad. It feels like an aching sensation and it burns and tingles on movement. I am seeing my Dr about it tomorrow and would like ideas on what I shoud ask them/what tests I should be having for these symptoms. Any ideas welcome. Many thanks.
Answer:
Hi there, you will be surprised to know that being 21 doesn't exempt you from some of the "old people" stuff out there!! lol
Your symptoms could lead to any number of things, Sciatica is the first thing that I thought of because you mentioned a limp, but that is usually more prevalent in the right hip and leg. You could have a ruptured,or herniated disc. Or even Arthritis.
You should ask your doctor if he will schedule you for an MRI. X Rays do not show everything that needs to be seen.
If you are just seeing a "family doctor" you could ask him/her to refer you to a Neurologist.
Good Luck, I know things like this are a little scary, especially when you are young and every thing is supposed to still work good!!
Nikki, it sounds like you have a touch of Arthritis. Athritis is NOT just an old persons illness, it can affect young and old alike. There are some excellent herbal remedies for it and you can email me if you would like some advice on that.
It sounds as though you may have sciatica. See your doctor. in the mean time take some pain killers.
Sounds to me like Sciatica the sciatic nerve is at the base of your back and when pressure is put on it you would normally get referred pain which means although the problem is in your back you will get the pain elsewhere and with this condition it is normally your bum and legs, I get it in my knees and my bum and leg...and sometimes your toes go numb! Tell your GP the problem and ask is it possible it could be sciatica
It is probably arthritis. You can have it at 21... I do to, though not so bad, I guess. I take ibuprofen. Aspirin will also work. By the way, however much the company doesn't like it, Tylenol is not effective at treating arthritis, as it does not relieve inflammation.
Please do not take this the wrong way but, from my own personal experience, you may be drinking too much.
It could be sciatica however please get a diagnosis, then a second, and third opinion before going through any intense treatment. A heating pad works the best while keeping your leg slightly elevated. You may consider doing some light yoga exercises, there are some stretches just for sciatica pain. I personally have suffered with scoliosis %26 sciatica since I was 8 years old. Without knowing what it was. Come to find out many years later, my scoliosis started progressing after being hit by a truck, and the sciatic nerve then became pinched. If I had not found out when I did a surgeon was going to remove the rod %26 6 screws in my leg that had been there 15 years!
I agree with the earlier reply it could be sciatica. But it might be signs of osteoarthritis or gout, there are many variations of arthritis.I hope it goes well for you.
good luck, nikki, sounds like arthritis to me.
I'm also 21, and i am in constant excrutiating agony.(sonce the beginning of the year) I'm waiting, for yet another doctors apointment, but my docotor is soooo rubbish.
Let me know what they say, i'd like to know, so that i an also prepare for what to say to my doc, cos as yet i have no diagnosis.
i'm pretty sure it's arthritis, if it is, i'm buggered.
Good luck 鈾?

Hip Surgery?

Hi - I amlooking for opinions on total hip replacement. Did you have one? What was your experience? What do you think about ceramic... metal on metal and metal and plastic? Thanks.
Answer:
The price of hip surgery is very low in India as compared to USA, UK and Canada. My cousin also got her hip replacement surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She is totally pain free now. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as all joint surgery is not covered by insurance in USA or by NHS in the UK. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com...
Hope this helps.
Yes, I had both my hips replaced.
I have described my experiences with this surgery in depth as I have answered many questions about it on Y!A. If you'd like to read more about it, please see my profile and my answers to questions that pertain to hip replacement.
The "gold standard" of a hip replacement has been metal/poly for many years. They work very well in less active (usually older) people. The problem with them can be that they wear fast in more active (and usually younger) people and may require early revision surgery. For this reason other more durable materials have been devised for bearings. One of these materials is ceramic/ceramic. If I were getting my hips replaced today, I would definitely at least ask about ceramic. Another is highly crosslinked poly.
There is a concern with metal/metal bearings and the issue of metal ions in the blood, especially in women of childbearing age. However they are very durable also.
I don't think anyone still uses metal on metal nowadays. Metal on ultra high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) are most commonly being used now. THRs have better success rate than TKR but still, it is recommended for the older age group(60 up) unless there is no other remedy but to use the replacements in younger individuals. If you are less than 60, ask your orthopedic doctor for alternatives before undergoing THR.

Hip problems?

i broke my hip when i was 15 and im now 21 and still to this day i suffer from alot of pain i have good days and bad days im going to see my doctor about it but i want some advice is there anything i can take for the pain?
Answer:
No doubt you are taking the usual analgesics.. OTC aspirin, Motrin, Tylenol and the like. Obviously your doctor will need to prescribe Rx medication to manage your pain. I fractured 3 vertebrae in my back from a mountain climbing (falling actually!) way back in 1987. Like you, I still suffer pain from that injury several times every year. I am sort of lucky however. I get migraines form time to time and have narcotic pain pills that my doctor prescribed. I use them when my back pain gets bad. And hold on everyone my doctor knows that I use those pain meds and he approves. One thing you might want to ask your doctor about is the use of amytripyline (amitriptyline) in low dosages as a prophylactic measure in preventing or reducing your hip pain. Hope you and your doctor can come up with a plan to eliminate or reduce your hip pain without the frequent use of narcotics.
